Northern Illinois University is a public research university in DeKalb, Illinois, founded in 1895 as a normal school to prepare college-educated teachers. It comprises seven degree-granting colleges and serves approximately 16,000 students, with satellite centers in Chicago, Naperville, Rockford, and Oregon; its NCAA Division I athletic teams are known as the Huskies.
