Brandeis University is a private research university in Waltham, Massachusetts, within the Greater Boston area. Founded in 1948 as a non-sectarian, coeducational institution on the former site of Middlesex University, it is named for Louis Brandeis, the first Jewish justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, and is classified as an R1 university for very high research activity.
