Bowie State University is a public historically Black university in Prince George's County, Maryland, north of Bowie. Established in 1865, it is the oldest historically Black university in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the United States. The university is part of the University System of Maryland and belongs to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
