Aurora University was a Catholic university in Shanghai that operated from 1903 to 1952. Founded with funding from Ma Xiangbo, it initially aimed to train translators able to facilitate dialogue between traditional Chinese ideas and Western modernity; its mission later broadened, and by the 1940s it was one of Shanghai's largest private universities.
