Academy of Art University is a private, for-profit art school in San Francisco, California, founded by Richard S. Stephens in 1929 as the Academy of Advertising Art. Its main campus is on New Montgomery Street in the South of Market district, and the school reported 5,498 students in fall 2024 while claiming to be the largest privately owned art and design school in the United States.
