The University of Bergen is a public research university in Bergen, Norway, established by an act of parliament in 1946 through the consolidation of several scientific institutions dating back to 1825. It is Norway's second-oldest university and one of the country's four so-called established universities, with programmes across the academic fields of a classical university as well as medicine and law. The university is noted for research in areas including marine and climate science and is a member of the Coimbra Group and Norway's U5 group.
