Ghent University is a public research university in Ghent, in Belgium’s East Flanders province. Founded in 1817 by Dutch King William I, it became Belgium’s first Dutch-speaking university in 1930 and received major autonomy in 1991. The university supports the Ghent University Library and Ghent University Hospital, and maintains satellite campuses in Flanders and a Global Campus in Songdo, South Korea.
