The University of Potsdam is a public university in Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg in northeastern Germany, with its facilities distributed mainly across three city campuses. Some of its faculty buildings are located in Sanssouci’s New Palace, a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage property. It is Brandenburg’s largest university and the fourth largest in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area, employs more than 8,000 people in scholarship and science, and received a 2009 award in the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft’s Excellence in Teaching initiative.
