Leipzig University

Leipzig University, located in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, was founded on 2 December 1409 by Frederick I, Elector of Saxony, and his brother William II, Margrave of Meissen. It is one of the world's oldest universities and Germany's second-oldest by consecutive years of existence, and has conducted teaching and research continuously for more than 600 years. Its alumni include 55 prime ministers and presidents, including Angela Merkel, and it is associated with 19 Nobel laureates, most recently Svante Pääbo, who received the 2022 Nobel Prize in Medicine.
