The University of Duisburg-Essen is a public research university in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, with locations in Duisburg and Essen. Originally founded in 1654, it was re-established on 1 January 2003 through the merger of the Gerhard Mercator University of Duisburg and the University of Essen.
