The University of Alcalá is a public university in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, about 35 km northeast of Madrid. It was established in 1977 as a spin-off of the Complutense University of Madrid, whose predecessor was founded in Alcalá in 1293 before relocating to Madrid. The university hosts the annual presentation of the Cervantes Prize, and one of its city-center campuses occupies historic buildings formerly used by the Complutense University.
