Complutense University of Madrid is a public research university in Madrid, Spain. Founded in Alcalá in 1293, it relocated to Madrid in 1836; its main campus occupies the Ciudad Universitaria district, with annexes in Somosaguas in neighboring Pozuelo de Alarcón. In 1909, the university was among the first in the world to award a doctorate to a woman.
