The University of Leeds is a public research university in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1874 as the Yorkshire College of Science, it later became the University of Leeds after receiving a royal charter in 1904. It is a member of the Russell Group, the N8 Research Partnership and the White Rose University Consortium, and its notable alumni include former UK prime minister Keir Starmer, Ireland’s current president Catherine Connolly, NASA astronaut Piers Sellers and two Nobel laureates.
