The University of Bristol

The history of the University of Bristol dates to 1909, when it received a royal charter permitting it to award degrees. The university developed from earlier institutions including University College, Bristol, founded in 1876, Bristol Medical School, established in 1833, and the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, which originated as a school in 1595 and later became the university's engineering faculty.
