Pázmány Péter Catholic University is a private, state-recognized Catholic university located in Budapest and nearby areas of Hungary. Its roots trace to a university founded in Nagyszombat in 1635 by Archbishop Péter Pázmány, while the present institution developed from the independent Theological Academy after the fall of Communism and received state accreditation in 1993.
