Eszterházy Károly Catholic University was founded in 1774 in Eger, Hungary, and was renamed in 1989 after its founder, Bishop Károly Eszterházy. Since 1 August 2021, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Eger has owned the university; its buildings are distributed across the city, including the baroque Lyceum, its largest and oldest building.
