Founded as a private academy in 1688, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is now a public university in Vienna, Austria, with more than 1,500 students and six institutes. Its main building on Schillerplatz near the Ringstraße was designed by Theophil Hansen and opened in 1877; the academy also houses an art collection including Hieronymus Bosch’s Last Judgement Triptych and is open to the public.
